Dmg 5e Rare Item Quirks List

  • For the item Wand of Wonder (dndbeyond link, physical DMG p. 212), there's a line where dndbeyond says 'An object of the GM's choice', whereas the physical book says 'An object of the DM's choice'. That is, dndbeyond uses the term 'GM' where the standard D&D term and the term used in the paper book is 'DM'.
  • Apr 22, 2015  Buying Magic Items in D&D 5E. April 22, 2015 April 22. It is likely 10x the price of a Very Rare item. I found the easiest thing to do is to use the Magic Item Quirks table (DMG 143) as the reason why, or to exaggerate a Minor Property (DMG 143) to the point of being annoying. Other options include: requiring attunement when the item.

ADDED (thanks Colin): In the DMG on pages 141-43 there are four excellent tables for generating special features for a magic item, so you can figure out who created it, its history, some minor properties and its quirks. Make it Hard to Get. One of my favorite things to do is make a magic item a quest for a player or the group.
